Materials Required

  • 4 ply fine weight 100% cotton yarn (multiple colors)
  • 2.5 mm crochet hook
  • Stitch markers

  • ch – chain
  • sc – single crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • sl st – slip stitch

Crochet Wind Spinner – Written Pattern

Foundation Chain

Make a slip knot. Chain 75.

Note: You can adjust the length. Chain 150 for a longer wind spinner if desired.

Row 1 – Single Crochet Base

  1. Make 1 additional chain.
  2. Insert hook into the 75th chain.
  3. Make 1 single crochet.
  4. Place a stitch marker in this first stitch.
  5. Make 1 single crochet in each chain across.

Total stitches in Row 1: 75 single crochets

Fasten off yarn. Chain 1, cut yarn leaving 2–3 inches, pull loop completely and secure.

Row 2 – Double Crochet Increases

  1. Attach a new color yarn at the first stitch (where marker was placed).
  2. Chain 2 (this does NOT count as a stitch).
  3. In the same stitch, make 2 double crochets.
  4. Place stitch marker on top of first double crochet.
  5. In every stitch across, make 2 double crochets.

This is a DC increase in every stitch.

Total stitches in Row 2: 150 double crochets

Fasten off yarn. Chain 1, cut yarn leaving 2–3 inches, pull loop and secure.

Row 3 – Double Crochet Increases Again

  1. Attach a new color yarn in the first stitch.
  2. Chain 2 (does NOT count as stitch).
  3. In the same stitch, make 2 double crochets.
  4. Place stitch marker on the first DC.
  5. In every stitch across, make 2 double crochets.

Total stitches in Row 3: 300 double crochets

Fasten off yarn. Chain 1, cut yarn leaving 2–3 inches, pull loop and secure.

Row 4 – Hanging Chain & Border

  1. Attach new color yarn.
  2. Chain 20 for hanging.
  3. Slip stitch into the first stitch of the spinner.
  4. *Chain 1, slip stitch into next stitch*
  5. Repeat from * to * across entire row.

This creates a neat border and finishing edge.

Fasten off yarn. Chain 1, cut yarn and secure.

Weaving in Ends

Using a tapestry needle, weave in all yarn tails through nearby stitches using back loops only. Trim excess yarn neatly.

Making the Tassel

  1. Wrap all yarn colors together around fingers 10 times.
  2. Cut bottom loops to form tassel.
  3. Secure top with yarn and make a double knot.
  4. Tie another knot about 1 inch below the top.
  5. Trim tassel ends evenly.

Optional: Add beads, bells, pearls, or charms before attaching the tassel.

Final Shaping

Gently twist the crochet piece to form spirals. Adjust the shape evenly around the center.
