Crochet Baby Shoes – Written Pattern

SOLE – Row 1

  • Make a slip knot
  • Chain 8
  • Chain 2 (counts as first dc)
  • In the 8th chain from hook, make 2 dc (total 3 dc)
  • Make 1 dc in each next chain – total 6 dc on one side
  • In the last chain, make 6 dc (this forms the curve)
  • Turn work and work 1 dc on top of the previous stitches
  • Again, in the starting chain, make 3 dc
  • Slip stitch to join

You should now see an oval-shaped sole.

SOLE – Row 2

  • Chain 2
  • In same stitch, make 1 dc (first increase)
  • Make 2 more increases in next stitches
  • Make 1 dc in each of the next 6 stitches
  • In the curved section, make 2 dc in each of the next 6 stitches
  • Make 1 dc in each of the next 6 stitches
  • In the last 3 stitches, make increases (2 dc in each)
  • Slip stitch to close

At the end of this row, the oval sole becomes wider and balanced.

SOLE – Row 3 (Back Loop Only)

  • Chain 2
  • Work 1 dc in each stitch, back loop only
  • No increases in this row
  • Slip stitch to close

This row creates a clear separation between the sole and upper part of the shoe.

UPPER – Row 4

  • Chain 1 (does not count as stitch)
  • Make 12 sc
  • Make 2 hdc
  • Make 4 dc decreases (front shaping)
  • Make 2 hdc
  • Make 12 sc
  • Slip stitch to join

This row starts forming the toe and front curve of the shoe.

UPPER – Row 5

  • Make 1 sc decreases
  • Make 10 sc
  • Make 2 hdc
  • Make 2 dc decreases
  • Make 2 hdc
  • Make 10 sc
  • Make 1 sc decreases
  • Slip stitch, chain 1 and cut yarn

The basic baby shoe shape is now complete.
