Puffy Sunflower Crochet – Step-by-Step Free Pattern

This Puffy Sunflower Crochet Motif is a cute and versatile project that can be used for accessories, clothing appliques, wall décor and much more. This pattern is completely beginner-friendly and uses puff stitches for a fluffy finish.

Materials

  • 4 Ply Medium Weight 100% Acrylic Yarn (Brown & Yellow)
  • 4 mm Crochet Hook
  • Tapestry Needle & Scissors

Abbreviations

  • MR = Magic Ring
  • CH = Chain
  • SL ST = Slip Stitch
  • Puff Stitch = (Yarn over, pull up loop) repeated 3 times, draw through all loops
  • Pott Stitch = Chain 2 & slip stitch into the top loops to create pointed tip

Center of Sunflower

Make a Magic Ring with 5 wraps of yarn.
CH 2 to secure.

Puff Stitch:
(Yarn over, insert into center, pull up loop to height) x 3.
Yarn over, pull through all loops.
CH 1.

Repeat Puff + CH1 until you have 10 puff stitches total.

Fasten off.
Close magic ring tightly.
Use tapestry needle to close the round neatly and weave ends.

Sunflower Petals (Yellow)

Insert hook into any CH1 gap between puff stitches.
Attach yellow yarn & CH 2.

Half of Petal:
(YO, pull up loop from gap) x 3.

Other Half:
(YO, pull up loop from top of puff stitch) x 3.

You should now have total of 13 loops on hook.
YO, pull through 12 loops.
YO, pull through remaining 2 loops.

CH 2, make Pott Stitch (insert needle back into top loops, SL ST to form pointed tip).
CH 2, SL ST into same stitch to close petal.

Repeat for all 10 petals.

Fasten off & weave ends.
