Crochet Diya (Lamp) – Step-by-Step Free Pattern

Decorate your home for Diwali with this beautiful handmade Crochet Diya. This pattern is beginner-friendly and uses simple stitches. Follow along and make your own festive lamp to brighten up your celebrations.

Materials

• 100% Cotton Yarn (Yellow for Flame & Brown for Diya)
• 2.5 mm Crochet Hook
• Scissors & Tapestry Needle

Abbreviations

• MR = Magic Ring
• SC = Single Crochet
• HDC = Half Double Crochet
• DC = Double Crochet
• TR = Triple Crochet
• FP-SC = Front Post Single Crochet
• BP-SC = Back Post Single Crochet
• INC = Increase (2 stitches in same stitch)

Flame Pattern (Yellow)

Make a Magic Ring.
Round 1:
SC 1 into MR.
HDC 2 into MR.
DC 2 into MR.
Chain 1, TR 1 into MR.
Chain 1, slip stitch into top of TR (flame tip).
Chain 1.
DC 2 into MR.
HDC 2 into MR.
SC 1 into MR.
Slip stitch to close.
Fasten off, leaving a tail to attach.
Pull ring tight.

Top Part of Diya

Using Brown yarn:
Round 1: MR, SC 6. Pull tight.
Round 2: INC in each stitch (12).
Round 3: (SC 1, INC) repeat around (18).
Round 4: (SC 1, INC, SC 1) repeat around (24).
Round 5: (INC, SC 3) repeat around (30).
Round 6: (SC 2, INC, SC 2) repeat around (36).
Attach flame at the center securely.

Base of Diya

Repeat Rounds 1–6 for the base.
Place top & base together.
Round 7: Join both pieces using SC through both layers (36).

Sides

Round 8: BP-SC around (36).
Rounds 9–11: SC in each stitch (36).
Round 12: FP-SC in each stitch (36).
Fasten off and weave ends.
