Foundation

Make a foundation chain in multiples of 8 + 5 extra chains.

Row 1

Skip first chain.

Repeat: 4 slip stitches, 4 hdc across the row.

Row 2

Ch 1, turn.  
Work in back loops only.

Row 3

Repeat across the row.

Row 4

Repeat Row 3.

Joining Ends

Fold work in half.

Closing Top

Attach yarn to top edge.  
Make single crochet border.  
Use invisible decrease: insert hook into front loops of 2 stitches, pull through, sc.  
Repeat until closed.  
Weave in ends and secure with knots.
